Home Persuade Plan Prepare Participate Perform Contact
Our plan employs Staging Areas/Energizer Stations, Designated Routes, Rally Points and On-Line Registration. We feel that this model provides the most flexibility and is also expandible.
To be clear, you do not have to utilize any of these supports in order to participate in Bike to Work Day. For planning and measurement purposes, please register on-line if you are participating, whether or not you are using any of the supports provided.
Staging Areas/Energizer Stations are being used for several reasons:
- To encourage use by people who live in outlying areas and wish to commute by bicycle part of the way
- To encourage use by people who live nearby who wish to ride with other cyclists as part of the event
- To increase participation of both novice and experienced cyclists
- To focus attention on the event
- To minimize interference with the motoring public
- To ease route planning and the provision of public services.
Staging Areas/Energizer Stations are hosted by local bike shops and staffed by volunteers from the NY and Albany Bicycle Coalitions who will assist and encourage cyclists.
- Ensure that every commuting cyclist wears a helmet
- Perform basic bike checks (Air, Brakes and Chains)
- Provide encouragement and give away promotional items such as flashers, garters and water
- Record participation metrics in event.
To date, the following locations are proposed as Staging Areas/Energizer Stations

- To securely store bicycles for the day. You must bring your own lock!
- To thank cyclists with more givaways
- To collect, summarize and report metrics on the efforts of all the riders. These metrics can take several forms.
- Number of cyclists
- Number of miles ridden
